137 more food godowns to be built in N dists
The government is constructing 300 new food godowns at a cost of Tk 400 crore in the country to ensure food security.
Of the godowns, 137 are being constructed in 16 northern districts, sources in the office of the Directorate General of Food said here yesterday.
They said the government is giving priority to building more godowns in the northern region to cope with food production.
Food official M Sirajul Islam told the news agency that 640 food godowns out of 731 are being used to keep about 4,09750 tonnes of food.
It will be possible to store 1,10,000 tonnes more food after construction of 137 godowns in the northern districts, he added.
