Five face war crime charges in Jhalakathi
Five alleged collaborators of Pakistani occupation forces have been sued on charges of killing, looting and setting fire to houses at Saturia village under Rajapur upazila of Jhalakathi district in 1971.
The accused are Hemayet Hossain Howladar alias Nuru chairman, advocate Harunur Rashid, BNP activist and former assistant public prosecutor of Jhalakati court, Ali Ashraf, Kabir Jamaddar, and Rabeya Begum, mother of Kabir Jamaddar.
Freedom fighter Shamsul Alam alias Manik Samaddar filed the case with Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court, Jhalakathi, yesterday.
In the case, the complainant alleged that the accused looted the houses of Syed Anwar, Siddik Mia, Naya Mia,Nagendranath Mondol on June 20, 1971.
They picked up Nagendranath from his house, took him to local launch ghat and shot him dead, the complainant said, adding that the collaborators later threw the body into the river.
Besides, the accused in collaboration with peace committee members created a reign of terror in Saturia union and committed several other crimes against humanity, the complainant further alleged alleged.
Judicial Magistrate Abir Parvez accepted the case and asked the officer-in-charge of Rajapur Police Station to submit a report within a month after proper investigation.
