Two killed in clashes over land disputes
A man and a woman have been killed in clashes over land disputes in Manikganj and Moulvibazar districts.
A man was killed and 11 others were injured in a fierce clash between two groups over land dispute at Charlakshmipur village in Singair upazila of Manikganj on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Azmat Ali, 45, of the village, reports UNB.
Police quoting local people said there was a longstanding dispute between Nizzat Ali and his cousin Borhanuddin over a plot of land.
They said Nizzat constructed a house on the disputed land in the afternoon which was dismantled by Borhan and his men.
After the incident both the groups equipped with lethal weapons and sticks attacked each other leaving 12 people including Nizzat and Borhan injured from both sides.
The injured were sent to Singair Hospital.
Azmat Ali and Azifa Begum were later shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where Azmat died.
A woman was killed Moulvibazar district in a clash over a disputed road at Athangiri village under Kagabola union of Sadar upazila yesterday.
Victim Rahima Khatun, 55, is wife of late Taimus Miah of the village, reports our correspondent.
Shainul Haque, 25, son of killed Rahima Khatun was also seriously injured and admitted to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital.
According to locals and police, there was a longstanding dispute over a village road between Rahima's family and other neighbouring people.
At one stage of the quarrel yesterday rivals attacked Rahima and his son Shahinul with sharp weapons, injuring them seriously.
Rahima died on the way to hospital.
