Acid thrown on Patuakhali couple, Dinajpur housewife
Criminals threw acid on a couple in Patuakhali and a housewife in Dinajpur early yesterday and on Sunday.
The Patuakhali incident took place at Barabaliatali village under Mithaganj union in Kalapara upazila, reports our correspondent.
Badly burnt Dulal Chandra Shil, 42, and his wife Ava Rani, 38, are now fighting for life at Kalapara upazila health complex.
Police and locals said, at about 1am yesterday unidentified criminals threw acid on the couple through the window when they were sleeping in their room.
Necks and a upper portion of bodies of both the victims were severely burned. Locals took the couple to upazila health complex in the morning.
Dulal said he had a longstanding family feud with his sister Putul Rani. Gopal Karmaker, son-in-law of Putul Rani threw acid on them, he claimed.
A case was filed with Kalapara police station in this regard.
In Dinajpur, a gang threw acid on a housewife in Ghoraghat upazila allegedly failing to rape her on Sunday midnight.
The victim was identified as Jotsna Akhter, 24, wife of Dulal Mia of Bhelain-Asrayan village, reports our correspondent.
Family members of the victim said that an unidentified gang numbering 4-5 caught Jotsna as she came out to respond to nature's call. The criminals hurled acid on her as they failed to rape her.
Later, the villagers rescued her and took her to Ghoraghat health complex.
Doctors at Ghoraghat health complex said that Jotsna received severe burn injures on her back and other parts of the body.
Dulal Mia filed a case accusing three people on Monday noon.
The accused are Mahbubult Haque, son of Ayez Uddin, Mojnu Mia, son of late Monar Ali and Md. Asadullah, son of late Mohir Ali, hailed from Bhelam-Asrayan village of Ghoraghat upazila.
