Four more UPDF men held in Khagrachhari

BDR personal arrested four more members of United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) in Moratila area under Panchhari upazila of Khagrachhari district yesterday for their alleged involvement in illegal toll collection. The arrestees are Rhidoy Chakma, 28, son of Sunil Chakma of Barobil village under Manikchhari Upazila, Anindra Tripura, 45, son of late Birendra Tripura of Taindong Bazar under Matiranga upazila, Aung Thoaunga Tripura, 30, son of Damai Karbary of Jirani Khola village, and Mongal Tripura, 43, son of Brato Kumar Tripura, 30, of Patalmonipara village under Panchhari upazila. Acting on a tip-off, a team of BDR personnel raided Moratila village at around 2:00pm and arrested the UPDF members. They also recovered two receipt books, Tk 11,000 and some notebooks from their possession, BDR sources said. On Monday night, police arrested five members of the anti-peace treaty organisation at Khabongpuriya in Sadar upazila on charge of creating anarchy in the area. The arrested UPDF members were identified as Mongprue Marma, 22, Rajib Chakma, 19, Samar Jibon Chakma, 20, Rubel Chakma, 18, and Mithun Chakma, 19. Meanwhile, an army team on Sunday night arrested two leaders of Hill Women's Federation (HWF) and two activists of United People's Democratic Front (UPDF) with firearms at Naniachar upazila UPDF office, according to our Rangamati correspondent. The arrestees are Juthika Chakma, 24, HWF Rangamati district unit convenor, and Joytsna Chakma, 23, a leader of the HWF district unit, and UPDF activists Titan Chakma, 22, and Binayan Chakma, 21. Army men later handed over the four to Naniachar police. An arms case was filed against them with Naniachar Police Station. Police later produced them in the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court that sent them to jail.
