Nine Allar Dal militants held in Shariatpur
Leaflets, training manual seized
Police arrested nine suspected members of banned militant outfit Allar Dal in Shariatpur Zila Stadium area on Monday evening.
The arrestees are Shafiqul Islam and Ziaul Karim of Pabna, Imdadul Talukder of Barisal, Sihabuddin of Madaripur, Abid Ahmed, Zahidul Islam, Md Sagar Sardar, Sakibuzzaman and Saidul Islam of Shariatpur Sadar upazila.
The law enforcers seized Leaflets, a training manual for militants and a diary containing guidelines to implement the organisation's motto from the arrestees.
Acting on a tip-off, law enforcers cordoned the southern part of the stadium at around 7:00pm and arrested the nine while they were holding a meeting.
Officer-in-Charge of Shariatpur Sadar Police Station Rabiul Alam said they launched the operation on information that Allar Dal militants were taking preparation to carry out subversive activities in the district town.
Shafiqul, one of the arrestees, told this correspondent that he came here to visit one of his relatives. "I am not involved with any militant organisation. Police picked up me from the stadium area while I was roaming around it."
Police lodged a case with Shariatpur Sadar Police Station against the nine under Anti-Terrorism Act.
The arrestees were produced in the Judicial Magistrate's court here yesterday, seeking a seven-day remand. After hearing, the court granted four days' remand.
