Two more RU Shibir cadres arrested
Motihar police arrested two more Islami Chhatra Shibir cadres from Rajshahi University (RU) yesterday in connection with the campus violence on February 9.
Arrestees Ariful Islam and Abdul Kader are fourth year students of Marketing department of the univetrsity.
Sources said, Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists of the university unit caught Arif from in front of Rabindra Arts Building as he came to seat for his fourth year final examination at around 10.00am and handed him over to Motihar police.
Later, hearing the news that more Shibir activists appearing in the examination of Marketing department at the same building, the BCL activists blocked the gates of building at around 1.00pm.
On information, law enforcers rushed to the spot and took position at the gates to arrest the Shibir cadres.
At around 1:30pm, the BCL leaders and activists entered the building and caught Shibir cadre Kader from the examination hall.
Police arrested the Shibir men from the main gate after the BCL activists dragged the Shibir cadres out of the building. BCL leaders alleged that both the Shibir cadres took part in February 9 campus violence.
RU proctor Prof Chowdhury Zakaria said the Shibir men were arrested for their alleged involvement with February 9 campus violence that killed BCL worker Faruk Hossain and injured a number of others.
Abul Khair, officer-in-charge (OC) of Motihar police station told this correspondent that the eight are accused in the cases filed in connection with the violence.
“We will take necessary steps after primary interrogation”, he said.
According to the police, over 230 Shibir leaders and activists have been arrested till date in connection with 14 cases filed after the February 9 violence.
