Jamaat leader sued on charge of felling govt tree
Satkhira district Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Maulana Abdul Khaleque and two others were sued Sunday night on charge of felling a government tree and misappropriating the money.
Surveyor SM Rafiqul Islam of Satkhira Zilla Parishad filed the case with Sadar police station.
The other accused are Yakub Ali, son of Azihar Rahman of village Agardari and Maulana Md. Mahfuz, a teacher of Agardari Kamil Madrasha in Sadar upazila.
Quoting locals police said, the accused felled a big tree worth Tk 40,000 on the side of Satkhira-Baikari road recently.
Contacted, Abdul Khaleque, also a teacher of Agardari Kamil Madrasa, denied the allegations and said they felled a roadside tree planted by them in front of Agardari Kamil Madrasa.
War crime case
In Narail, a case was filed against three people with a court at Lohagara on 29 August 2010 accusing them of war crimes in 1971, reports our correspondent.
The accused are Golam Rasul Mollah, 70, son of late Erfan Uddin Mollah, Lutfar Mollah, 60, son of late Chaidyem Mollah, both from village Char Mallickpur and Habibur Rahman Mallick, 62, son of late Khaleque Mallick of Doa Mallickpur under Lohagara upazila.
According to the case, on August 15, 1971 at 10am the aforesaid people picked up complainant Mollah Mohammad Hossain's father from the house and took him to an unknown place and killed him. Besides, they looted and destroyed his shop.
On filing of the case, Magistrate Keramat Ali ordered the officer-in-charge of Lohagara police station to take appropriate steps in this regard after filing FIR.
