More than 400 students of Chhotomerung Ashrafia Dakhil Madrasa under Dighinala upazila are attending their classes, risking life as cracks have developed in several parts of the madrasa building. According to the madrasa authorities, cracks developed in the building after a mild earthquake hit the southeastern part of the country two years ago. They informed the authorities concerned and Khagrachhari Hill District Council of the matter and sought their help to build a new madrasa building, but to no effect. Tahmina Akhter, a student of class eight, said they are attending classes, risking their lives as something unpleasant may happen anytime. She urged the authorities concerned to construct a new madrasa building. Mohammad Habibur Rahman, a class nine student, urged the reporters to write about the present state of their institution. Abdul Latif, superintendent of the madrasa, said he had sought help from KHDC chairman, upazila nirbahi officer, education engineering department and local union parishad chairman to construct a new academic building, but no one responded positively. Dighinala Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Moniruzzaman Mia said he has already informed the higher authorities of the matter and necessary steps will be taken in this regard. Khagrachhari Hill District Council Chairman Kujendra Lal Tripura said he will take up a project as soon as possible to construct a new building for the madrasa.
