Five armed cadres of Janajuddha faction of outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) were hired to kill Damodar Union Parishad chairman Sarder Abu Saeed Badal. Operation commander of PBCP Janajuddha faction Al Mamun alias Bomaru Mamun, who was arrested in Narail town on Thursday night, said this while giving his confessional statement to the Court of Judicial Magistrate Md Abu Ibrahim on Friday under Section 164. Mamun told the court that he and four other outlaws of Janajuddho faction joined the killing operation after receiving a big amount of money from Badal's rivals. Final decision to kill him was taken after holding three secret meetings at Narail residence of outlaw Bipul Bairagi, he added. Expelled Chhatra League leader Mehedi Anam Ranju played a key role in hiring the outlaws and he was the mastermind behind the murder, Bomaru Mamun told the court. "After killing the UP Chairman, we went to Narail crossing near Bejerdanga river of Jessore district in three motorbikes." he said. Bomaru Mamun disclosed during his judicial confession that they were also hired by the political rivals of Phultala Upazila Parishad Chairman Sarder Alauddin Mithu to kill him. They gave us Tk five lakh to implement the killing operation "We missed in our attempt on his life as he was in a well protected private car when bullets were fired and bombs charged on March 6 this year at Shiromoni under Khanjahan Police Station under Khulna city, he said in his confessional statement. He also confessed to his involvement in the murder of shrimp trader Azad Gazi of Phultala upazila for not paying Tk 10 lakh as toll as demanded. ASP Nasiruddin of Khulna district police claimed to have made a major breakthrough in the investigation of the UP Chairman murder case. Damodar UP Chairman Sarder Abu Saeed Badal was shot dead near his house at Damodar village at 10:00am on August 16.
