RU body to probe war crimes start functioning

The recently formed probe committee at Rajshahi University (RU) has started collecting information to identify people who committed war crimes and crimes against humanity on the campus during the Liberation War in 1971. At a press conference yesterday at the university deans' complex auditorium, Prof Chowdhury Zulfikar Matin, convener of the committee said they have already sent notices to different departments and offices at the university seeking information relating to war time crimes. Earlier on August 19, RU authorities formed an 11-member committee as the International War Crimes Tribunal sent a letter seeking information on people involved in crimes during the 1971 war and a report in this regard. Prof Chowdhury Zulfikar Matin and Prof Fkuzzaman were made its convenor and member secretary while RU teachers Tofazzal Hossain Tarafdar, Abul Kashem, Shafikunnabi Samadi, Ananda Kumar Saha, Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan Sajal, Moloy Kumar Bhoumik, Sadekul Arefin Matin, Mahbuba Kaniz Keya, and Hasibul Alam Prodhan members of the committee. Member secretary of the committee Prof Fayekuzzaman read out a statement and sought cooperation from all to complete the task smoothly.
