Outlaws threaten to kill 3 UNOs, 2 others in Khulna
Outlaws allegedly threatened to kill five people in the district including three Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNO) on Saturday and Sunday.
The UNOs are Md. Sabur Hossain of Paikgachha, Md. Abul Bashar of Koira and Monirul Islam of Rupsha upazila.
All the three UNOs and two others made GD entries with police stations concerned seeking security of life.
Two others who received similar death threats are Senior Information Officer Javed Iqbal of Khulna regional office of Press Information Department (PID) and manager of Paikgachha upazila branch of Krishi Bank Md. Farhad Hossain. They also made GD entries.
According to the general diaries of three UNOs, one Biplob, identifying himself as operation commander of Janajuddho faction of outlawed PBCP, now in charge of Khulna district and Khulna metropolitan city, demanded huge amounts of money as illegal toll.
He demand the amounts on the plea of maintaining 400 cadres detained in different jails across the country and helping families of their three armed cadres recently killed by law enforcers in Pabna district.
They threatened to kill us and also members of our families if we fail to pay the toll demand by the outlaws, the three UNOs informed when this correspondent contacted them on Monday.
The caller demanded Tk one lakh from Paikgachha UNO, Tk four lakh from Koira UNO, Tk three lakh from Rupsha UNO, Tk 10 lakh from senior Information Officer of PID and Tk 5 lakh from Paikgachha Krishi Bank Manager, said officers-in-charge of the concerned police stations quoting the complainants.
The outlaw asked the UNOs and two others to pay the toll or get ready for death any time on expiry of the deadline.
"We have started an investigation into the allegations and are taking necessary steps in this regard", said Khulna Police Superintendent Tanvir Haider Chowdhury.
