3 of a family get life for killing boy
Three of a family were sentenced to life term rigorous imprisonment yesterday for killing a child in 1989.
The court also fined them Tk 20,000 each, in default, to suffer six months more in jail.
The court, however, acquitted three others as the prosecution failed to prove the charges brought against them.
The convicts are Shamsur Rahman Sardar and Kawsar Ali Sardar sons of Abdul Gafur Sardar and Ala Uddin Sardar, son of Shamsur Rahman Sardar, of village Goalpota in Kaliganj upazila.
Judge Sharif Uddin Azad of the Satkhira District and Session Judge's Court delivered the verdict.
According to the prosecution in brief there was long-standing a dispute between Tofazzel Hossain Sardar and Abdul Gafur Sardar over a piece of land.
On October 14 in 1989, both the groups locked in a clash at the village. During the clash, the convicts chopped Nazrul Islam, 11, son of Eman Ali of the village leaving him dead on the spot.
Sunnat Ali Sardar, son of Tofazzel Sardar filed a case with Kaliganj police station accusing 10 people on the same day.
The investigation officer (IO) of the case, submitted charge sheet against six accused on February 11 in 1990.
