<i>Firearms, jihadi books seized</i>
Joypurhat Rab in a raid on Sunday evening recovered several firearms, lethal weapons, explosive materials and books and leaflets on jihad in Khetlal upazila.
The recovered materials include three pipe guns, 4 daggers, 3 books and 250 leaflets. However, none was arrested till filing of this report yesterday afternoon.
Sources said a Rab-5 team, acting on information, raided Moheshpur village in Khetlal upazila of Joypurhat at 7:40pm and recovered the arms and other materials from an abandoned well near the house of Montezar Rahman, a 'regional commander' of banned Islamist outfit Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
Contacted, Md. Alamgir Hossain, commanding officer of Joypurhat Rab confirmed the incident.
The printed leaflets called people to join 'Allahr Dal' to free the country from the rule of human being. The leaflets also called for establishing rule of Allah, failing which it threatened to oust this government from the power within two months.
Police said at Moheshpur village in Khetlal upazila of Joypurhat police and JMB members had a gunfight when police raided the house of Montezar Rahman during a 'secret' meeting. The gunfight left at least 7 policemen including then OC Iqbal Safi, injured.
During the gunfights, the JMB members also took away at least 28 bullets, two magazines and two shotguns and walkie-talkies from the policemen.
After the incident, 21 top JMB men including Bangla Bhai were arrested but all of them later got bail.
