Residents of Rajarampur in the town yesterday formed a human chain, brought out a procession, held a rally and submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner demanding arrest and punishment to the killers of housewife Afsana Akhtar Biplobi. Around 500 people, including women and children brought out the procession from Shaheed Satu Hall premises. The processionists paraded different roads of the town and later formed a human chain in front of the civil surgeon office. After the programme, they submitted a memorandum to the deputy commissioner. They also submitted the copy of the memo to Superintendent of Police (SP) and Civil Surgeon (CS). During agitation, they chanted slogans against Biplobi's father-in-law, mother-in-law and husband demanding their trial. They alleged that police are not arresting the killers while the civil surgeon is not releasing the autopsy report 'mysteriously' eight days into the murder. Abdus Samad Bakul, advocate Mizanur Rahman and Mirza Monirul Islam spoke at the rally. Housewife Afsana Akhtar Biplobi, 22, was killed allegedly by husband and in-laws for dowry at Majhpara in Chapainawabganj town on August 14. Victim's family members alleged that Biplobi's husband Atikur Rahman Rana and in-laws used to torture her . On August 14 they killed her and hung the body from a ceiling fan in their house. Later they took her to Sadar hospital where the on-duty doctor declared her dead. They further said, Ashikur Rahman Rana, son of Azizur Rahman of Majhpara married Biplobi, daughter of late Mofiz Uddin Mia of Rajarampur in Chapainawabganj municipal area three years ago. At the time of marriage, they gave Rana refrigerator, colour television, gold ornaments and furniture as dowry. But still Rana, his father and mother used to torture Biplobi regularly demanding Tk 2 lakh. Victim's brother Abdur Razzaq lodged a murder case on August 15 with Sadar police station accusing Azizur Rahman, his wife Tanjila Begum and Rana of killing Biplobi. Ahsanul Haque, officer-in-charge of Sadar police station said, Rana, his father and other members of the family went into hiding since the incident. Muktara Begum, civil surgeon of Chapainawabganj said, the allegation bought against her is false and baseless. "We have already sent the autopsy report," she added.
