Eight arrested from Benapole border
BSF hands over 4 fishermen
BDR arrested eight people yesterday for trying to go to India illegally while Indian Border Security Force (BSF) handed over four fishermen to BDR on Friday.
Eight people including three women and children were held by BDR while crossing Putkhali border in Benapole yesterday, reports a correspondent.
They were identified as Chhobi Rani, 40, Purnima Kirtonia, 25, Champa Rani, 16, Adhir Mondol, 52, Bimol Bokshi, 42, Shibu Mondol, 35, Arab Ali, 30 and baby girl Runa. All of them hailed from Barisal.
BDR sources said, being tipped off that some people were being trafficked by a local gang of human traffickers through the border they raided the spot along the border and arrested them at around 8am.
In Satkhira, four Bangladeshi fishermen, who were picked up by BSF from the river Kalindi on Thursday night, were handed over to BDR the next evening, reports our correspondent.
The fishermen are Ruhul Amin Karikar, 32, son of Fazar Ali Karikar, Iqbal Hossain, 28, son of Tojambar Kha, Abdullah Kha, 31, son of Ekuji Kha and Firoj Gazi, 29, son of Elahi Gazi of village Shitalpur in Kaliganj upazila.
Quoting locals BDR said, BSF men of Hingalganj outpost arrested the fishermen while fishing in the river Kalindi near Basantapur border in the upazila on Thursday night.
BDR authorities sent a letter to BSF authorities protesting the arrest on Friday morning and asked them to return the four Bangladeshis.
In response to the BDR letter, a company level flag meeting took place at zero point near at Basantapur in Kaliganj upazila in the river Kalindi on Friday afternoon.
After the meeting, the BSF men handed the four over to BDR.
Our Staff Correspondent in Sylhet reports: Two Indian nationals who intruded into Bangladesh on Thursday midnight were pushed back Friday afternoon.
Border sources said a patrol team of BDR Protappur outpost arrested Managabor, 26 son of Lalgin, hailing from Tesong area of Longchong PS and Iguchha,22 son of Chamur, hailing from Chiangui in the Indian state of Manipur as they crossed border illegally through the Nokshiapunji border in Gowainghat upazila.
The BDR on Friday morning handed them over to the Gowainghat police. Later the Indian were pushed back in the afternoon through the Protappur border point in presence of border guards and police.
