Three housewives commit 'suicide,' 3 murdered

Three housewives allegedly committed suicide while three others were murdered allegedly by their husbands on Friday and the day before in five districts. Family of the Chuadanga victims termed the Friday's incident as murders and filed two separate cases, reports our Kushtia correspondent. The deceased were identified as Azmiri Khatun, 23, wife of Asadul of Sarishadanga and Sultana Khatun, 19, wife of Anwar Hossain of Kalupol in Sadar upazila of the district. Of them, Sultana was buried without post mortem. According to police, Azmiri's husband and his family members brought Azmiri to Chuadanga Sadar Hospital at about 1:30pm for admission. They claimed that Azmiri commit tried to suicide by taking poison. The on-duty doctors declared Azmiri dead at about 2.00pm. Azmiri was married to Asadul five years ago. She has a two-year-old son. Azmiri's father Ahad Ali told journalists at the hospital that Azmiri was murdered. He filed a case with Sadar police station accusing Asadul and his family members. In the other incident, in-laws of Sultana found her hanging from the ceiling of her house at about 11.30am on Friday. Sources said Sultana's husband Anwar left the house in the morning without shutting the room from outside. Hearing the news from family members, Anwar came to his house and brought down the body. Later they buried Sultana in the evening without postmortem. Daughter of Akkas Ali of Pirtola village in Alamdanga upazila in Chuadanga, Sultana was married to Anwar two years ago. In Narsingdi, another housewife was found hanging from the ceiling of her house at Kandi Moholla Friday morning. The victim was identified as Hazera Khatun, 24, daughter of Habibur Rahman Sarkar of Sayedabad village under Sirajganj. Hazera's husband, Khandaker Towhid Hasan, 30, son of Mohsin Khandaker of the area, claimed he found her hanging from a ceiling fan in a room of their house when he woke up for sehri in the early hours. Habibur Rahman said his daughter was murdered. He accused the husband and in-laws of frequently torturing her for dowry and demanded justice. Sub Inspector (SI) of Narsingdi Sadar police station Mohammad Selim said the body bore marks of injury. Police filed an unnatural death case in this connection and arrested Khandaker Towhid and his parents. According to UNB, three housewives were killed allegedly by their husbands and in-laws in Nilphamari, Munshiganj and Thakurgaon. In Nilphamari, Mokarram Hossain and his family members beat up his pregnant Aklima to death following a family feud at Shingerbari village in Kishoreganj upazila on Thursday afternoon. Police and locals said Mokarram Hossain, 25, son of Khoka Mahmud of the village married Aklima, 22, daughter of Mosharraf Hossain of nearby Jummapara village about one and half years ago. Victim's mother Shamsunnahar filed a case with the police. In Munshiganj, Rina Begum, 25, was killed allegedly by her husband for dowry at Kakaldi village in Sirajdikhan upazila on Friday. Police and locals said Rina, daughter of Sheikh Ali Hosain of village Maddhyapara was married to Shahjahan Mia two years back. Locals alleged that Shahjahan and his family members beat Rina dead for refusing to bring dowry from her parents. A case was filed. After the incident Shahjahan along with family went into hiding. In Thakurgaon, Minara Begum, 18, died mysteriously after 17 days of her marriage on Thursday morning. Police said Minara, daughter of Abdus Samad of village Konikshalgaon was married with Mansur Alam of neighboring Sonihari village, 17 days ago. Victim's father claimed that his daughter was tortured to death following a family feud.
