Firearms, ammo recovered in five districts
Rab and police in separate drives have seized at least five firearms in five districts.
Rab arrested a man with two revolvers and six bullets in Putkhali border area of Benapole yesterday.
The arrestee was identified as Farook Sardar, son of Akhter Sardar of Putkhali village.
According to Rab-6, they seized the arms from Farook's house upon a tip-off, reports a correspondent.
The elite force recovered one rifle, two bullets, one matche and an axe in Meherpur on Wednesday night.
Acting on a tip off that outlawed party cadres belonging to Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP-ML) faction Lal Pataka were holding a secret meeting, a team from Rab-6, led by assistant police super (ASP) Jahidul Islam raided Pirtola field under Gangni upazila at about 12.30am.
Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the outlawed operatives fled the scene.
Later, Rab recovered the weapons, reports our Kushitia correspondent.
In Khulna, police recovered 35 revolver bullets and two magazines on Wednesday right from residence of a notorious criminal.
According to police, Mostakur Rahman Zahur Alias Zahur Sheikh, is a cadre of an underground organisation. He managed to escape from his South Central Road residence sensing presence of law enforcers, reports our staff correspondent.
Zahur was awarded life term in a case for murdering Khulna City Jubo Dal leader Anowar Hossain Anu. The murder was committed on November 12 in 1998 at Municipal Tank Road. However he got bail from a higher court in the case three months ago, police said.
In Comilla, police arrested three young men along with a firearm from Goliara area of Sadar South upazila early Wednesday.
The arrestees were identified as Syed Kamal Shuvo, 25, of Talpukurpar area of Comilla district town, Saddam, 28, of Khetishar village in Shaharasti upazila of Chandpur and Moin Khan, 26, of Golapbag area of Dhaka.
Police said acting on a tip-off they arrested the three young men along with a pistol while crossing the area by a motorcycle after midnight. A case was filed.
Another report from Dinajpur adds: A team of Rapid Action Battalion recovered a country-made shooter gun from a house at Dokkhin Basudev village in Hakimpur upazila early Monday.
Rezaul Karim, officer-in-charge of Hakimpur police station said Rab-5 members raided the house of Shahin, 21, son of Bazlur Rahman at about 3am and recovered the gun but Shahin managed to flee the scene.
