Two housewives murdered allegedly for dowry
Two housewives have been killed allegedly over dowry in Panchagarh and Narsingdi districts.
A housewife was killed allegedly by her husband and in-laws for dowry at Saprajhar village under Atwary upazila in Panchagarh on Sunday evening, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent.
To cover up the murder, the killers allegedly poured poison in her mouth and claimed it as a case of suicide, reports our correspondent.
The victim was identified as Kulsum, 24, wife of Dhajibul Islam of the same village.
Police and locals said Kulsum, daughter of Shahidul Islam of Baroaulia village under Atwary upazila was married to Dhajibul Islam, son of Mojibul Islam of Saprajhar village under the same upazila about four years ago.
After marriage, Kulsum's husband and the in-laws used to torture her frequently for dowry.
On the fateful day, the family members of her husband beat her mercilessly over a trifle matter leaving her dead.
After her death they told the villagers that she committed suicide by taking poison. Hearing the news, Kulsum's family members rushed to the spot and found several injured marks on her body.
Later the victim's father, Shahidul Islam, filed a murder case with Atwary police station accusing four people including her husband.
In Narsingdi, a housewife was strangled allegedly by her husband and family members over dowry at Pirpur village of Raipura upazila on Friday midnight, reports a correspondent.
Victim Razia Akter, 27, was daughter of a freedom fighter Abdul Barik of Charuzilabo village in Belabo upazila.
On the fateful night, Morshed, 30, following an altercation, strangled Razia, mother of two children, as she refused to bring dowry money from her father's house, said Abdul Baten, officer-in-charge of Raipur police station.
Family sources said Morshed married Razia about five years ago. After the marriage, Morshed and his family members used to torture her for dowry.
Recently Morshed asked Razia to bring Tk one lakh from her parents to send his brother Osman abroad. On Friday, Morshed, with the help of his brother Osman Mia strangulated her to death.
On information, police recovered the body at about 10am and sent it to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy.
Morshed, along with family members, went into hiding immediately after the killing.
