Students demand arrest of stalkers

Students of Bichhat Model High School in Assassuni upazila continued boycott of examinations for the second day yesterday demanding arrest of the stalkers who assaulted a teacher and two students of the school at Gorali Bazar in the upazila on Wednesday. A gang of stalkers led by Ashraful Islam, Manirul and Gaffar of Gorali village attacked a meeting jointly called by the locals and the authorities of Bichhat Model High School at Gorali Bazar at around 1:00om on Wednesday to take steps against the gang members who have been staking girl students of the school for the last two months. The gang injured class ten students Ferdous Hossain, Selim and Joyantu Kumar, and English teacher Khagendra Nath Sarkar, 50. The injured are undergoing treatment at Assassuni Upazila Health Complex. The authorities of Bichhat Model High School filed a case with Assassuni Police Station the same day against six stalkers including Ashraful Islam, Manirul and Gaffar. But no one was arrested as of filing of this report at 5:00pm yesterday. The students at a protest rally at gorali Bazar yesterday demanded immediate arrest of and exemplary punishment to the stalkers. Otherwise, they threatened to launch a tougher agitation programme. Contacted, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Assassuni Police Station Fazlur Rahman said the accused have gone into hiding soon after the incident. Police are raiding different areas to arrest them, he added.
