15 hurt as BCL rivals lock in bloody clash

At least 15 people were injured as rival factions of BCL locked in a bloody clash at Kendua Degree College yesterday. Police and students of the college said, a long-standing rivalry was prevailing between Nadiruzzaman Khan, joint-convener of Kendua upazila BCL and another joint-convener Al-Mamun Sumon over establishing supremacy at the college. Following an altercation between Nadiruzzaman and Al-Mamun yesterday morning, the rival groups attacked each other with sharp and lethal weapons leaving at least 15 activists from both sides injured. The injured include Rahmat Ali, Abdul Awal, Shamim Ahmed, Monir Hossen Moni and Chuton. In Shariatpur, about a dozen people were injured in a clash between students of Shariatpur Government College and transport workers in the town yesterday. Sources said the clash begun at about 11am over charging of increased bus fare. Both sides used sticks and brickbats and sharp weapons during the clash. As police rushed to the spot to disperse the warring groups they also came under the attack, reports UNB. Of the injured, three transport workers -- Allin Bahar, Nuru Bahar and Billal Hossain and three students -- Polash, Shohag and Ershad were admitted to the Sadar hospital. Constable Jalal, badly injured during the clash, was also admitted to the same hospital.
