According to the prosecution, Abul Hossain stabbed to death his wife Syeda Khatun following a family feud on April 1, 2004. Later, he tried to commit suicide by taking poison but survived as his relatives rushed him to a local hospital.
Syeda's father Abdur Rahim filed a case with the police in this connection.
Meanwhile in Nilphamari, police recovered the body of a housewife from Dimla hospital in Dimla upazila on Tuesday morning.
The deceased was identified as Sahera Khatun, 26, wife of Abul Hossain and mother of two children, of Uttar Goyabari village in the upazila. The death is shrouded in mystery.
Police quoting hospital sources said Abul admitted her to Dimla hospital on Monday evening claiming that she swallowed poison in a bid to commit suicide.
Later, she died at about 10 pm on the same night while her husband along with his relatives fled away.
Later, on information by the hospital authorities, police recovered the body and sent it to morgue for autopsy.
Locals alleged that Abul beat up Sahera mercilessly following a family feud leaving her senseless. Later, he poured poison in her mouth in a bid prove that she took poison to commit suicide.
