Man jailed for killing daughter, step-mother allegedly kills girl
A man was sentenced for life on Monday for killing his 4-year-old daughter while another 4-year-old girl was beaten to death allegedly by her step-mother on Sunday.
A Chapainawabganj court on Monday sentenced one person to life-term rigorous imprisonment (RI) for killing his young daughter, reports our correspondent.
District and Session Judge Anwar Hossain handed down the verdict in presence of convict. Alamgir alias Rahim, 26, son of Monirul Islam of Poladanga-Natun Bazar under Shibganj upazila in Chapainawabganj.
The court also fined him Tk 2,000, in default, to suffer three months more RI.
The prosecution story, in brief, is that six months ago Rozina divorced Alamgir. After that she sent her 4-year-old daughter Mousumi to Alamgir's maternal uncle Jalal's house at Sahapur of Nachole upazila.
Alamgir picked up Mousumi when she was sleeping at Jalal's house at 10:00pm on January 26 in 2008.
He put his sleeping daughter in a plastic to suffocate her and later dumped the body in a pond near the house.
Five days later, locals found a floating sack in the pond and informed police.
Police recovered the body and arrested Alamgir on suspicion.
Giasuddin, sub-inspector of Nachole police station, filed a murder case against Alamgir with the police station the same night.
In Chittagong, a four-year old girl was beaten to death allegedly by her step-mother at Kamal Sawdagar Colony of Sitakunda upazila early Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Fatima, daughter of Jahangir Alam, reports UNB.
Police said, Jahangir married Sharmin one year ago. After that he divorced his first wife Hasina Begum keeping his daughter with him. But since her marriage Sharmin used to torture Fatima.
Sources said, at about 5am on Sunday, Sharmin beat Fatima mercilessly over a trivial matter leaving her dead on the spot.
Hearing the hue and cry, residents of the colony rushed to the spot caught Sharmin and Jahangir and handed them over to the police.
Meanwhile, a Natore court on Sunday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife in 2004, reports a correspondent.
The court also fined Abul Hossain Molla, 48, son of Khadem Molla of Kashempur village of Lalpur upazila Tk 10,000, in default, to suffer one year more RI.
According to the prosecution, Abul Hossain Molla killed his wife with sharp weapon on April 2 in 2004 following a family feud.
Later, a case was filed by victim's father Abdur Rahman Khan accusing Abul Hossain with Lalpur police station.
After examining the records and witnesses, District and Sessions Judge Abdul Mazid handed down the verdict on Sunday morning.
