War crime case against 30 in Bagerhat
Thirty alleged collaborators of Pakistani occupation forcers have been sued on war crime charges in Bagerhat district.
Freedom fighter Tayeb Ali Khan, 78, of Shialkati village under Kachua upazila filed a petition case with the Court of Judicial Magistrate Elias Rahman on Thursday naming 15 identified people and 15 unidentified others as accused.
The identified accused in the case are Moktar Ali, 65, Aftab Ali, 63, Esharat Mollick, 70, Abdur Rahman Sheikh, 75, Liakat Ali Farazi, 68, Salam Molla, 58, Anowar Sheikh, 65, Anowar Fakir, 70, Sarwar Halder, 75, Shahid Howlader, 68, Afzal Sheikh, 67, Sekandar Howlader, 75, Monir Howlader, 74, Rezaul Mollick, 64, and Dulal Khandaker, 70.
The court took the case into cognisance and ordered the officer-in-charge (OC) of Kachua Police Station to record the case after proper investigation.
The complainant in his petition stated that the accused attacked a market at Bhasha area under the same upazila on October 15, 1971. They sprayed bullets on innocent people, killing 15 of them on the spot and injuring two others.
Those killed in the attack were identified as Hareram Moandol, Phani Ranjan Mondol, Shailendra Nath Mondol, Pramoth Ranjan Mondol, Haripada Halder, Harashit Halder, Bashudev Halder, Sunil Kumar Paik, Bashudev Paik, Atul Krishna Mridha, Radha Banerjee, Ananta Kumar Halder, Surendra Nath Halder and Lob Kumar Samaddar. All of them hailed from different villages under Kachua upazila.
The complainant said his uncle Anowar Khanand fish trader Shunil Dakua sustained bullet injuries in the attack. He further said the accused later raped some women at Moghia village under the upazila, looted a good number of houses and set them afire.
When asked, OC of Kachua Police Station said he will record a regular case after proper investigation. It will take at least two weeks to complete the investigation, the OC added.
