2 more outlaws held in cop killing case

Two more operatives of Purbo Banglar Communist Party (PBCP- red flag) were arrested at Ashulia in Dhaka on Friday night in connection with the killing of three policemen in Bera upazila of Pabna on July 20. The arrestees are Md Akkas Sardar, 55, Kasalia village, and Nizam Fakir, 50, of Rajdhardiar village in Dhalarchar of Bera upazila. With the two, the number of arrestees in connection with the killing now stands at nine. On intelligence report, law enforcers raided an area in Ashulia at around 10:00pm and arrested outlaws Akkas and Nizam. Sheikh Zillur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Pabna Police Station, said the two took shelter at Ashulia after the killing of the cops. Pabna Police Superintendent (SP) Jamil Ahmed quoted intelligence report as saying that some outlaws held a meeting at the house of Akkas Sadar at Kasalia village just before the armed attack on three policemen, Sub-Inspector Md Kafil Uddin, Nayek Abdul Wahed and constable Shafique of Dhalarchar police camp were shot dead by underground operatives at Daspara under Bera upazila of Pabna district on July 20. On Thursday last, Pabna and Rajbari police in a joint drive arrested PBCP regional leader Nuru Mondol, 55, at Char Mukuri village in Pabna and Rajbabri border area. Sub-inspector Abul Kalam Azad, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, produced Nuru Mondol in Pabna Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court yesterday, seeking a seven-day remand. The court granted three days' remand. Immediately after killing, police arrested six outlaws in Pabna and Rajbari districts and at Savar in Dhaka district. They are Md Nader Pramanik, Md Wazed Ali, Md Abdur Rahim, Md. Tajul Islam, Md. Sayem Uddin and Ayub Ali. Of them, Ayub Ali confessed to his involvement in the killing. Police Superintendent (SP) Jamil Ahmed said the law enforcers are continuing drive to arrest the other persons involved in the killing.
