Jubo League activists led by Matiranga municipality unit President Mohammad Ala Uddin Liton closed four shops at the local market on Wednesday noon.
Locals said the Jubo League men shut the shops of Mohammad Dulal Mia, 26, Mohammad Halim Mia, 24, Abdul Malek, 27, and Abul Basher, 23 as they joined a Chhatra Dal conference in Chittagong on July 29.
District Chhatra Dal Secretary Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil condemned the incident, terming it an undemocratic act of the ruling party's youth organisation. He urged local administration to take immediate steps to open the shops.
Contacted, Jubo League President Ala Uddin said they closed the shops as the owners are involved in unsocial activities.
Officer-in-charge of Matiranga Police Station Mohammad Mizanur Rahman told this correspondent said he heard the news and asked Sub- Inspector Mohammad Mahbub to investigate the matter.
