BCL-Shibir clash leaves 10 injured
At least 10 students were injured as Chhatra League (BCL) and Shibir activists clashed at Noakhali Science and Technology University yesterday.
Critically injured Amir Hamza and Tanzib Ahsan of applied chemistry and engineering department and Shishir Paul of fisheries and marine science department were admitted to Noakhali General Hospital while Binoy, Rony, Faruk, Shihab were released after first aid.
The injured students said BCL and Shibir activists locked in an altercation over a trifling matter Monday afternoon when they were returning to the campus by bus after shopping in the district town.
As a sequel to the incident, Shibir men led by Adnan, Mazed, Sumit and Arif obstructed a campus-bound bus near the Grameenphone tower and beat up the students yesterday morning.
Police rushed to the scene and brought the situation under control.
Angered at the incident, the BCL activists vandalised a bus of the university demanding punishment to the attackers.
The university administration postponed all examinations scheduled for yesterday afternoon.
Contacted, Vice Chancellor Sanjay Kumar Adhikari said he was aware about the incident.
Amir Hamza and Tanzib yesterday filed a case with Sudharam police station accusing 30 students including Adnan, Mazed, Sumit, Arif and Ishrat.
Police have been deployed on the campus to avoid any further untoward incident.
