Students lock principal's office, clasrooms
Teachers blamed for exam debacle
Students of Gaibandha Agriculture Training Institute yesterday locked the principal's office and classrooms for about an hour protesting debacle in the third semester practical examination.
Earlier, they brought out a procession which paraded the campus chanting slogans against the teachers for their alleged failure to provide proper education. They also demanded stopping private coaching by teachers.
Police rushed to the spot, brought the situation under control and unlocked the rooms.
The students alleged that out of 126 students who appeared in the last third semester practical examination, 27 could not come out successful as they did not join classes by the respective teachers of mathematics and chemistry.
They further alleged that those who joined private coaching in exchange of high amount of money passed the practical examination. The teachers remained busy with private coaching and rarely attended classes, they added.
The students urged the authorities to reconsider the results and take measure to stop private coaching with immediate effect. Otherwise, a greater agitation will be launched, they threatened.
Contacted, principal of the Institute Tahera Khatun denied allegation of teachers' neglect to duties. She, however, said that drastic action would be taken against any teacher in case of any specific allegation.
