22 hurt as villagers clash with lethal weapons
At least 22 people were injured as rival villagers clashed in Thakurgaon and Munshiganj districts on Saturday.
In Thakurgaon, at least seven people including three women were injured in a clash on Saturday afternoon at Bangaon village under Haripur upazila, reports our correspondent.
Injured Abdur Rahim,52, son of Rustam Ali, Farida Begum,45, wife of Abdur Rahim, Faruk,22, son of Abdur Rahim, Rustam Ali,80, father of Abdur Rahim, Jamila,75, wife of Rustam Ali, Samad,40, son of Rustam Ali and neighbour Hazera, Begum,45, were admitted to Haripur health complex.
Sub-Inspector of Haripur police station told this correspondent that at about 3:00pm a group of people with lethal weapons led by Arefin and Monju of Bangaon village attacked the house of Abdur Rahim over previous enmity leaving seven people injured.
On information a police team rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Abdur Rahim filed a case on Saturday night with Haripur police station accusing 32 including Arefin and Monju in this connection.
In Munshiganj, at least 15 people were injured in a clash between two groups of villagers at Charbalaki village in Gajaria upazila on Saturday night, reports UNB.
Police and local people said there was a longstanding conflict between Mahfuz Mia and Barek Mia over establishing supremacy in the village.
They said Sumon, son of Barek Mia, went to buy some commodities from the grocery shop of Manik, son of Mahfuz Mia on credit.
But an altercation ensued between them when Manik refused to sell the commodities on credit.
Later, both the groups equipped with lethal weapons attacked each other, leaving 15 people including Manik, Sumon, Alauddin, Yakub, Kulsum, Rabeya, Mili, Rahim, Sabura and Mahfuz injured from both sides.
Critically injured Manik and his mother Sabura were sent to Gajaria upazila hospital while others to Sonargaon upazila hospital and a clinic in Dhaka.
A case was filed in this connection.
