4 more RU Shibir cadres arrested
Motihar police arrested four more Islami Chhatra Shibir men form Rajshahi University (RU) on Saturday and Friday night in connection with the campus violence on February 9.
Arrestees Ismail Hossain, Al-Amin, Shahinul Islam and Hafizur Rahman are second year students of Islamic Studies department.
Sources said, RU unit Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists caught Ismail and Al-Amin from the university stadium market for their role in February 9 campus violence and handed them over to Motihar police on Saturday night.
BCL activists at Ziaur Rahman Hall unit caught Shahinul and Hafizur near Station Bazar of the university. They look them to a room of the hall and severely beat them with wooden rods on Friday night. Later they handed them over to the law enforcers, sources said.
The leaders of the hall unit BCL alleged that Shahinul and Hafizur along with a group of outsiders attacked BCL workers on the campus on February 9.
Abul Khair, officer-in-charge (OC) of Motihar police station, said they arrested the four for their role in the campus violence.
"They will be produced before the court after primary interrogation," the OC said.
Meanwhile, the leaders and activists of Samajtantrik Chhatra Front of Rajshahi University (RU) unit yesterday staged demonstration on campus protesting expulsion of its Chittagong University (CU) unit leader.
They also held a protest procession and paraded the campus demanding withdrawal of the decision.
Earlier, the CU Board of Residence, Health and Discipline at a meeting expelled Sujan Kanti Dey, a second year student of public administration, also an assistant secretary of Samajtantrik Chhatra Front CU unit for two years on charge of manhandling two teachers during agitation against the recent fee hike on July 26.
The authorities also served showcause notices on five others to explain why action should not be taken against them.
At a rally held later on the campus, the leaders and activists of the Front called upon the CU authorities to withdraw the additional fees immediately.
