Rajshahi BNP demands proper police probe
Leaders of Rajshahi district unit BNP yesterday demanded proper investigation into Puthia Chhatra Dal leader Nur Nabi Nuhu murder case and punishment to his killers.
They announced protest programmes on August 7 and threatened to go for tougher programmes if their demands are not met.
Nadim Mostafa, the district BNP president read out a written statement while general secretary advocate Quamrul Monir replied to questions at the press conference held at Chilis restaurant.
Nadim Mostafa alleged that police are not properly investigating the case as the 16 accused in the murder case include Kazi Abu Hanif Suja and Kazi Md Alauddin Ripon -- two brothers of the local Awami League lawmaker Kazi Md Abdul Wadud Dara.
The accused are moving freely in the areas while the police are raiding houses of BNP leaders and workers almost every day forcing many to flee homes, he added.
Nuhu's mother Sayera Begum, wife Neela Begum and two-year old daughter Tisha present at the press conference also demanded exemplary punishment to the killers.
Nuhu, 27, Baneswar union Chhatra Dal publicity secretary was murdered near a mosque at Maipara Bazar of Puthia on July 22 night.
One and a half years ago, on January 29, 2009, Nuhu's father Abu Daud Hossain, a BNP leader was also killed in the same area.
The BNP leaders at the press conference said, Nuhu was murdered to save to killers of his father.
They also denied that Nuhu was a phensidyl trader and refuted the Awami League claim that he was killed in a dispute with rival phensidyl traders.
