110 injured in two Habiganj clashes
At least 110 people were injured in two separate clashes in Madhabpur upazila on Monday.
Police and witnesses said Jasimuddin, a student of Sayed Sayeed Uddin Degree College picked up a quarrel with a bus conductor over a trifling matter at about 11am at Jagadishpur area on Dhaka-Sylhet highway.
When Jasim informed the matter to his fellow students they became angry and blocked Dhaka-Khulna road and detained a Dhaka bound passenger bus of Mitali Paribahan.
Later, a chase and counter chase took place between them that left seven students and three transport workers injured.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. They also arrested two students - Jasimuddin and Milon in this connection.
Four of the injured students Panir, Helal, Jony and Bakibillah were admitted to Madhabpur upazila health complex.
In another incident at least 100 people were injured in a fierce clash between two groups over hiring labourer to harvest jute plants at Kharki village in the same upazila on Monday morning.
Locals said Helal Mia, son of Farid of Kharki village gave a proposal to co-villager Nayan, son of Adam Khan of the same village for hiring some labourers for him. But at one stage both of them locked in an altercation over the issue.
Later, their supporters equipped withlethal weapons attacked each other leaving over a hundred people from both sides injured.
Of the injured, 50 people were admitted to Madhabpur health complex and Brahmanbaria Sadar Hospital in critical condition.
