9 sued in Bogra, Chandpur on charge of war crimes
Two cases were filed against nine people in Bogra and Chandpur on Tuesday and the day before on charge of killing and arson during liberation war in 1971.
In Bogra, a case was filed with a court on Tuesday against four people accusing them of killing AL leader Kafil Uddin and his domestic help Khabir Uddin, during the war in 1971, reports our staff correspondent.
Mosharaf Hossain, son of Kafil Uddin of Sherpur filed the case against Dr Ishrat Ullah, 85, and his son Md Shahidullah, 60, Md Abdul Hakim, 62, and Md Abdul Karim, 70, with Bogra Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court.
Addl. Chief Judicial Magistrate Hasanuzzaman is scheduled to hear the case today.
Mosharaf in his case stated that Dr Ishrat and three others with the help of Pakistani occupation army picked up Kafil Uddin and Khabir Uddin from their home on 26 September in 1971. They tortured them at Sherpur Degree College and after that the family members of Kafil did not find any trace of them, he said.
In Chandpur, a case was filed against five people on Monday on charge of killing several people and burning down their houses during the liberation war in 1971, reports UNB.
Court sources said Feroza Begum, wife of late M Ahsanullah Patwary of South Badarpur village in Faridganj upazila filed the case accusing the five alleged Rajakars of the area with the court of Judicial Magistrate Murshidul Alam.
The alleged Rajakars are Md Nurul Islam of Gridakalindia village, M Nurul Amin Maulana of North Badarpur village, M Nuru Khalifa, Joynal and Sultan Fakir of Barapaika village in Faridganj.
In her complaint, the plaintiff alleged that during the 1971 liberation war, these five people along with their cohorts raped, plundered, set fire to houses, tortured and then killed the plaintiff's husband and some other freedom loving people in Faridganj and later threw the bodies into the Dakatia River.
Meanwhile in Patuakhali, a human chain was formed on Tuesday in front of Kalapara upazila press club demanding speedy trial of war criminals.
About 300 freedom fighters, their sons, political leaders and local elite took part in the hour-long human chain in the morning, reports our correspondent.
Later the organisation submitted a memorandum to the prime minister through Kalapara upazila nirbahi officer (UNO) Nasir Uddin Biplob, president of the organisation handed over the memorandum to UNO.
