Warrants for arrest of 8 PWs in Sylhet
A Sylhet court yesterday issued arrest warrants against eight prosecution witnesses (PWs) as they did not appear before the court to give deposition in Surjo Digholbari explosive case.
The case was filed with Kotwali Police Station after the arrest of outlawed JMB chief Shaikh Abdur Rahman (executed in judges' murder case) and others at the house in the city's Shaplabagh area on March 2, 2006. Law enforcers recovered huge explosives from the house rented by Abdur Rahman.
The witnesses against whom arrest warrants were issued are the then deputy commissioner of Sylhet Faisal Alam, the then Rab deputy assistant director Sarwar Murshed, former ASP Moshi Uddin, Iqbal Mansur, Sheikh Ashraful Alam Nasir, Mahmudur Rahman, Abir Ahmed Swapon and Alam Miah.
Additional District Judge Manjurul Haque Khan, however, recorded deposition of another prosecution witness named Abdur Rakib. The judge fixed September 13 as next date for recording deposition of PWs, court sources said.
The accused who were yesterday produced in the court are JMB operatives Abdul Aziz Hanif and Maijul Islam Chowdhury alias Hridoy Chowdhury, Hridoy's wife Chameli Begum, Shaikh Abdur Rahman's wife Nurjahan Begum and daughter Afifa Rahman.
Maulana Saidur Rahman, also an accused in the case, was not produced in the court yesterday.
