8 Jamaat,Shibir men arrested in Pabna, Naogaon

Remand of 15 ends in Satkhira

Eight leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatra Shibir were arrested in Pabna and Naogaon districts yesterday and on Wednesday night. Meanwhile, a Satkhira court yesterday sent 15 leaders and activists of Jamaat and Shibir to jail on expiry of their remand. In Pabna, police arrested Sadar upazila Jamaat Ameer Abdul Gaffar, district unit member Omar Ali and Shibir activists Ashraful Islam, Zubayer Hossain and Mahmud Ali soon after their release on bail from jail, According to Pabna correspondent. They were arrested on June 30 in a case filed with Sadar Police Station under Speedy Trial Act for creating chaos in the town the same day. Police said the five were shown arrested in a murder case filed with Ishwardi Police Station on June 9. Our Satkhira correspondent reported that 15 local leaders and activists of Jamaat and Shibir were sent to jail on expiry of their three-day remand yesterday. The Jamaat and Shibir men were arrested on July 15 in a sedition case and taken on a three-day remand on June 19. Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sadar Police Station ShahJahan Khan, also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before the Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court that sent them to jail. The arrestees are Kamrul Islam and Nurul Islam of Puratan Satkhira, Sultan Karikar of Machhkhola village, Abdul Ahad of Kashempur village, Abul Kalam Azad and Shahinur Rahman of Katia village, Mahbubur Rahman of Kamalnagar village, Abdur Rahman of Munshipara village, Shah Jahan of Dahakula village, Nurul Haque of Raichpur village, Abdul Momin of Rasulpur village, Abdus Sabur of Jahanabad village, Ahad Ali of Jordia village and Kabir Hossain of Alipur village in Sadar upazila; Amirul Islam of Sakhipur village in Debhata upazila, Abdullah of Assassuni village and Shahinur Rahman of Kesha village in Tala upazila. On confessional statements of the arrestees, police recovered over 200 'Jihadi books from the houses of Abul Kalam Azad and Abdur Rahman at Munshipara in Satkhira town. Police in separate drives arrested two Jamaat men and a Shibir activist in Naogaon town and in Manda upazila early yesterday on charge of sticking posters on walls demanding release of three top Jamaat leaders, reports UNB. The arrestees are Mohammad Abdul Quaiyyum, a member of Manda upazila Jamaat and Chakkanu Madrasa superintendent, Miraj Uddin, a leader of the upazila unit, and Shibir activist Zakaria Hossain. Officer-in-Charge (OC) Aminul Islam of Sadar Police Station said Zakaria was arrested in the town while the rest were arrested in Dealuabari Bazar in Manda upazila.
