Call to strengthen anti-imperialism movement
Speakers at a rally on Sunday urged the people to strengthen anti-imperialism movement being imbued with the spirit of Jubo Bidroho Dibash (Youth Revolt Day). They made the call at the rally organised by Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) Chittagong unit marking the Youth Revolt Day at Cheragi Pahar intersection. Earlier, activists of the party placed wreath on the portrait of Master Da Surjya Sen on the J M Sen Hall premises and brought out a colourful procession that paraded different city streets. Speakers said a number of brave youth of Chittagong led by Master Da fought face to face against the British armed forces to free the motherland from British rule on 18 April, 1930.'' After 39 years of the independence we are still victim of imperialist aggression, they said. The present bourgeoisie rulers are plundering national wealth including oil, gas, electricity and port through signing anti-people agreements with the imperialist forces, they said. The selection round for Marks All Rounder, Chittagong zone - 3, was held at Cider International School ground on Saturday. Chittagong Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Abdus Salam inaugurated the programme where around 2500 students from 89 schools participated. Speakers at the inaugural ceremony underscored the need for arranging more such competitions to encourage the students in extra curriculum activities side by side with textbooks-based education. The children would be greatly benefited from such competitions that would help create a sound environment for their physical and mental growth, they said. Former chairman of Chittagong Education Board and principle of Sider International School AJM Shahidullah, executive director of Abul Khaer Group Brigadier General Shahidullah Chowdhury, consultant of Abul Khaer Group Tasnim A Karim and Coordinator of Marks All Rounder Chittagong division Masud Bakul also spoke at the programme. 'Technical education a must for self-reliance'
State Minister for Environment and Forest Dr Hasan Mahmud on Saturday urged the unemployed to become self-reliant through acquiring technical knowledge. It would be difficult for only the government to solve unemployment problem, he said. The state minister urged all to help address unemployment through providing technical education. Dr Hasan was addressing as the chief guest the inaugural ceremony of a training centre set up under the Poverty Reduction and Women Development Programme of Chittagong District Council (CDC) on the CDC premises. He said efforts of the district council to alleviate poverty side by side with its regular works could be an example for others to follow. Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md Saifullah Chowdhury, director of Local Government Department, Chittagong Manzur-E-Elahi and Fatikchhari upazila Chairman Aftab Uddin Chowdhury attended the programme as the special guest with CDC Chief Executive Officer Sayeda Sarwar Jahan in the chair. More than 400 unemployed men and women received training from 11 different courses like sewing, computer, mobile repairing, block, boutique and others under the Poverty Alleviation Programme, Sarwar Jahan said. Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr Afsarul Ameen on Saturday said the government is making efforts to ensure quality education with a view to establishing “Digital Bangladesh”. He was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion titled “Development of Primary Education” organised by Bangladesh Primary Teachers' Association (BPTA) at Muslim Institute Hall. “The government is trying to bring all children to school and meet the basic demands of primary school teachers, including financial benefit after retirement, gradually,” he said, adding that process to recruit teachers will be changed. District Primary Education Officer Debesh Chandra Sarkar, BPTA Central Committee Chairman Nurul Absar, General Secretary Siddiqur Rahman, Chief Adviser AK Fazlul Haque and Senior Vice President Mohiuddin Chowdhury were present as special guests with BPTA Chittagong city unit Chairman Didarul Alam Chowdhury in the chair. Speakers at a meeting in the port city on Saturday said organisational and administrative structures of the War of Liberation were established after the revolutionary government of independent Bangladesh led by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was formed at Boyaddanath Tola in Meherpur in 1971. They were addressing a discussion organised by Chittagong City Awami League (AL) marking the 'Historical Mujibnagar Day' at party office. Chittagong City Corporation Mayor and city AL President ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury presided over the discussion. General Secretary Kazi Enamul Haque Danu, Vice President AKM Belayet Hossain, Joint Secretary Advocate Ibrahim Chowdhury Babul, Organising Secretary MA Rashid and member Shafiqul Hasan spoke at the meeting. Mayor Mohiuddin in his speech said four national leaders of the government in exile -- Syed Nazrul Islam, Tazuddin Ahmad, Captain M Mansur Ali and Mohammad Kamruzzaman, were killed in a bid to create vacuum in the country's leadership after killing Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. “Huge money is being spent to foil the trial of war criminals. Killers of Bangabandhu and the four national leaders are trying to create barrier on the way of the trial bringing the issues of power, gas and water crises”, he said.
