A housewife was killed allegedly by her husband and in-laws over dowry at Buropara village in Alamdanga upazila of Chuadanga Friday night. The victim was identified as Anjana, 24, daughter of Ershad Ali of Fulbaria village in Sadar upazila of Chuadanga. According to local sources, the killing took place Friday night and the body of the housewife was kept hidden for long 14 hours. Her husband and in-laws however claimed that Anjana committed suicide on Saturday. They then brought out the body of Anjana, mother of a three-year old boy, from a room at about 5:00pm Saturday. Local sources alleged that family members of her husband also tried to bury her but failed in the wake of protest by Anjana's family. Police yesterday sent the body to Chuadanga sadar hospital for autopsy. According to Anjana's family members, she was married off with Swapan, son of Shamsul Haq of Buropara village, in 2004. During the marriage, Anjana's father paid Tk 70,000 to Swapan as dowry. Anjana's father paid him more money considering peace of her daughter. But Swapan demanded money again, her family members alleged. Seeing no way, Anjana's father opened a savings account at a local bank in Anjana's name and deposited Tk 90,000. Swapan often tortured Anjana to get the deposit money, Anjana's brother Safi alleged. Anjana's father filed a murder case against Swapan, his mother Jahanara Begum and brother Saiful Islam.
