Criminals torch veg garden in Khagrachhari
6 hurt in Bandarban attack
Criminals on Friday night torched vegetables on one acre garden of a farmer at Chobbish Mail area under Mohalchhari upazila.
Mohammad Khalilur Rahman, owner of the vegetable garden said local criminals cut down the vegetables and then torched the garden causing him at least Tk one lakh loss.
Officer-in-charge of Mohalchhari police station Abdul Mannan said he will investigate the incident and take action against the culprits.
In Bandarban, six Bangalee settlers were injured in an attack allegedly by a gang of indigenous people at Chhoto Bomu village in Lama upazila early yesterday, according to UNB.
Locals said, the attack followed a long-standing dispute over a piece of land.
Injured Yusuf Ahmed, 70, Amena Khatun, 55, Abdul Quader, 80, Nur Ayesha, 50, Kabir Ahmed, 70, and Manjurul Alam, 21, were admitted to local health complex in critical condition.
Lama upazila chairman M Ismail said a group of 10-12 masked tribal youths belonging to the Chakma community equipped with sharp weapons swooped on settlers at the village at about 3:00am.
The attackers hacked several people while they were asleep, leaving the six seriously injured.
Local UNO and police officials visited the spot in the morning.
