Kidnappers stab Rab man in Mymensingh

A Rab official was stabbed by a gang of abductors in Dhara Bazar area under Haluaghat upazila when a team of the elite force went there on Tuesday night to rescue a kidnapped man. Following the incident, Rab members cordoned off the area and rescued abducted Ashrab Ali, 45, son of Jabed Ali of Otty village in the upazila, from a house at Purbo Dhara village early Wednesday. They also arrested two abductors from the spot. They are Abdul Haque, 45, and Hormuz , 42. On the basis of their statements, the Rab men raided Batgachia village at around 4:00am and arrested another gang member named Mannaj, 50, son of late Habibur Rahman of the village. Two firearms, three bullets and four knives were recovered from their possession. The injured Rab official, ASI Abdul Mannan, 35, was first admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH) and then shifted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Dhaka. The gang abducted Ashraf from his village recently and demanded ransom for his release. Ashraf's family informed Rab-9 of the matter and agreed to pay the abductors ransom for his (Ashraf) release at Miah Dighir Par near Dhara Bazar Tuesday night. Ashraf's relatives reached the spot at around 8:00pm on Tuesday. When they were handing over the money to the gang, the Rab men, who had earlier taken position nearby, came forward to catch the abductors. At this stage, the gang opened fire, stabbed ASI Mannan and managed to flee taking advantage of darkness.
