Old man beaten to death, ten injured in Savar clash
An elderly man was beaten to death and 10 others were injured in an attack by a rival group over land dispute at Sardaganj in Sadar upazila yesterday morning.
The deceased was identified as Abdul Karim,70.
Police said there was enmity between Malek Kazi and Abdul Karim over a piece of land.
Malek along with his supporters, equipped with lethal weapons, attacked Abdul Karim in his house at 10:30 am and beat him up mercilessly, leaving him dead on the spot and injuring his sons and neighbours.
Later the assailants set ablaze his house and fled away.
Being enraged by the incident, locals brought out a protest procession and blocked Kashimpur-Sreepur road for two hours demanding arrest of the criminals.
On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
Police also arrested Kashem Ali, 30, and Ruhul Amin, 32, in this connection.
Additional police have been deployed in the area to maintain law and order.
