Army chief in Aila-hit areas, sees repair of embankments

Army chief General Abdul Mobin Chowdhury yesterday visited the worst Aila-hit areas in Shyamnagar and Assassuni upazilas to see the reconstruction work of the breached embankments. The reconstruction work is now in progress at Jhhapa closure point in Padmaukur union in Shyamnagar upazila and Chakla closure point in Pratapnagar union in Assassuni upazila. During the visit General Mobin told the Aila victims that the reconstruction work will be completed before the monsoon and the affected people will be able to return to their villages. Stressing the need for maintaining standard of the construction, he urged the authorities to complete the deed of contract with the contractors concerned without delay. The army chief came to Satkhira by helicopter that landed at Nokipur High School ground yesterday morning. He was taken to Atulia Union Parishad office where the commanding officer of 55 Infantry Division showed him the progress of the work.
