Teacher punished for cruelty to students
Tipu Sultan, an assistant teacher of Government Laboratory High School in the town, received a 'stand release' order yesterday on charge of mercilessly beating up two students of the school over a trivial matter on Monday.
Earlier on August 5 last year, the same teacher beat up a class nine female student of the school, making her get admission into Mymensingh Medical College Hospital with hearing problem and headache a day after.
"As the allegation of merciless beating against Tipu Sultan were proved, the authority took action and he was transferred to Government Joyhori High School in Kendua upazila of Netrakona district this morning," Amena Khatun, headmaster of the school, said yesterday.
When Tipu Sulltan, an assistant teacher of the school, entered class seven on Monday noon, he was informed that there was some writing with 'love proposal' on a bench.
Tipu charged students Ashik and Tanjil, who sat on the bench, but they denied their involvement about the writing.
At this the teacher became furious and started punching and beating them with his belt, said students and teachers.
Hearing scram of the victims, the teachers including Abul Kashem, who was working as headmaster (in-charge) of the school that day, rushed to the spot, rescued the two boys and arranged first aid for them, said Abul Kashem.
"I and my seven colleagues talked to the students of the class regarding the incident and submitted a report to Sujan Kumar Dey, deputy director of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education yesterday [Wednesday]. The official also visited the school and talked to the students. According to the instruction of the authorities concerned, Tipu Sultan was released today [Thursday]," said Amena Khatun, headmaster of the school.
"After Tipu Sultan mercilessly beat up class nine student Fatema Mohammad on August 5 last year, we instructed him not to behave in such an arrogant way in future," she added.
A three-member probe body, which was formed after the incident, submitted its report to the authority concerned but no instruction regarding it reached the school as of yesterday, school sources said.
Tipu Sultan has a tendency to behave in an aggressive way when he becomes angry, said a few teachers and guardians.
