Satkhira tense as FFs vow to foil today's Jamaat meet
A tense situation is prevailing at Satkhira district headquarters as Muktijoddha Sangsad and Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee yesterday vowed to foil any attempt by Jamaat to hold its today's scheduled meeting in the town.
Party Secretary General Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mojaheed is expected to attend the meeting as the chief guest.
Jamaat had earlier announced that it would hold a public meeting at Shaheed Abdur Razzak Park at 3:00pm on April 8 and also took authorities' permission in this regard.
But tension mounted on April 5 as Muktijoddha Sangsad and Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee had convened a meeting at the same venue at the same day.
They also took out a procession and held a rally in the town on Tuesday. At the rally, the speakers vowed to resist the war criminals and declared Mojaheed persona non grata in the district.
Contacted, Muktijoddha Sangsad district convener Enamul Haque Biswas said they will not allow the war criminals to address any meeting in Satkhira. "We will resist them", he said.
Vowing to foil any Jamaat bid to hold rally in the town, Muktijoddha Sangsad and Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee jointly brought out a procession here yesterday evening.
Apprehending untoward incident, the district administration yesterday cancelled the permission, which was earlier given to Jamaat to hold its public meeting at Shaheed Abdur Razzak Park.
District Jamaat Publicity Secretary Altaf Hossain said they will hold today's meeting at another venue in the town as the district administration cancelled permission.
Sakhira Police Superintend SM Maniruzzaman said they are observing the situation and necessary measures will be taken to avoid any untoward incident in the town.
