65 houses, 100 shanties in Dinajpur, Khulna gutted
Fire gutted 65 houses in Dinajpur yesterday and over a hundred shanties in Khulna on Saturday.
Our correspondent in Dinajpur reports: At least 65 houses were gutted in a devastating fire at Bagdair village under Kaharol upazila on Monday noon.
The fire also burnt potteries worth over Tk one crore. Officials quoting witnesses said that the fire originated from the kitchen of Ainul Bari at the village at 12:30pm and quickly engulfed the adjacent houses.
The villagers and fire fighters doused the fire struggling for over one hour.
The fire also burnt wheat, paddy, mustard and potatoes besides furniture and other valuables.
Our staff correspondent in Khulna reports: Ten people received burn injuries while over a hundred shanties were gutted in a devastating fire that broke out at sweepers' colony near the railway market in the town Saturday evening.
The fire, which originated from an oven, destroyed the entire colony and all the belongings of over 400 members of sweeper families.
According to police and eye-witnesses, ten people received burn injuries while desperately trying to extinguish the fire.
The injured were admitted to Khulna General Hospital at Bhairab Strand Road.
The victims rendered homeless by the devastating fire are now staying under open sky near the colony compound.
