Killing, abuse of 2 schoolboys in Sylhet, Sirajganj protested

Human chains were formed in Sylhet and Sirajganj yesterday protesting killing and sexual abuse of two schoolboys. Our staff correspondent in Sylhet reports: Students of different schools and their guardians staged a human chain on Airport Road in the city's Chowdekhi area yesterday demanding immediate arrest of the killers of schoolboy Saidul Islam. Parents of the deceased joined the human chain. Besides, the students of nearby Metropolitan Kindergarten, Anwara-Matin Academy, Hajrat Shah Jalal (RA) Pre Cadet Academy and Shahporan (RA) Pre Cadet Academy participated in it. A brief rally was also held and it was addressed by Saidul's father Nurul Islam, city corporation's ward councilors Akhtarunnesa Baby and Farhad Chowdhury Shamim, former councilor Abu Nosor Bokul, principal Abdul Matin Chowdhury, advocate MA Matin, Humayun Ahmed Mashuk and principal of Shahporan Pre Cadet Academy Ashutosh Das. The speakers demanded immediate arrest and punishment to the killers and expressed grave concern at police inaction. They also called upon the law enforcers not to harass any innocent man in connection with the case. Student of class nine at the Shahporan (RA) Pre Cadet Academy Saidul, 15, was beaten up and stabbed near a hillock, close to the Sylhet divisional stadium on Wednesday afternoon by a group of his playmates residing in Badam Bagicha area. The boy was first taken to his house, wherefrom rushed to the Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital. He succumbed to his injuries there next morning. In Sirajganj, hundreds of people formed a human chain in front of the weekly Jibon Barta office at SS Road in the town demanding immediate arrest and exemplary punishment to a senior member of the local chamber for allegedly sexually abusing a schoolboy. Earlier, the demonstrators brought out a procession that paraded the main streets in the town. It was followed by a rally at the same venue, reports our correspondent. The speakers at the rally said the accused who is also linked to National Small and Cottage Industries Association and local Rotary Club picked up a class seven student of local Sabuj Kanon High School from a road in the town on March 27. The 13-year old boy was later confined to a godown where he was allegedly tried to be sexually abused by offering a nice gift. As the boy declind, the accused tied him up with a chair by rope. However, he managed to escape from the place and later narrated the matter to the local youths and guardians. The speakers further said that the same person was earlier arrested on charge of abusing another schoolboy, but he got released with the help of some dishonest people in police and administration.
