Rival Jubo League, AL factions clash

Several shots were allegedly fired at the private car of Natore district Jubo League president Shariful Islam Ramzan in Duttapara area near the town Sunday night following internal feud. Ramzan alleged that the shots were fired at his car in a bid to kill him. He said his life was saved as he was not inside the car. The incident occurred after the State Minister for Youth and Sports Ahad Ali Sarker left the place. Additional police have been deployed in the town after the incident. Police, witnesses and party sources said, a meeting was held at Duttapara Model College Sunday evening in presence of State Minister Ahad Ali Sarker to settle a dispute arising out of an assault on college principal Al Asad bin Sayeed on March 29. After the discussion the state minister fixed April 18 for next meeting. During the discussion Ramzan and Jubo League general secretary Shimul had an altercation with Sramik League leader Syed Murtaza Ali Bablu. Ramzan's chauffer Suja said, after the state minister left the place, a gang coming on motorbikes obstructed the car of Ramzan. During the attack, four bullets hit the car. According to a Chandpur report, two BCL cadres were arrested from Sadarghat in Dhaka early yesterday on charge of attacking a local leader of ruling Awami League in Faridganj upazila of the district. UNB says, acting on secret information that the two cadres Sabuj, 25, and Kanchan, 23, were fleeing to the capital from Haimchar by launch, police raided it and arrested them. Police said Sabuj and Kanchan aided by several others attacked Abul Kashem Contractor, forest and environment affairs secretary of district AL, leaving him seriously injured Friday night. UNB from Magura reports: At least ten people were injured in a clash between two groups of Awami League (AL) activists at Chandikhali village in Sreepur upazila yesterday morning. Police and witnesses said local AL leaders -- Tobarek Ali and Munnu Biswas -- had been at loggerhead since long over establishing supremacy in the village.
