Businessman rescued, abductors arrested

Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) on Friday rescued an abducted businessman and arrested two alleged abductors. Scrap iron trader Suhel Ahmed, 25, was abducted allegedly by Rasel Miah, 18, and Rabiul Islam, 18, of East Sultanpur area of Moulvibazar town. The arrestees were later handed over to Moulvibazar police. According to sources at Rab-9 Srimongal camp, the arrestees called businessman Suhel Ahmed over cell phone and asked him to come to Premnagar tea garden under Moulvibazar Sadar upazila at about 8:00 am on Friday. When Suhel met them there, the abductors confined him to a place and demanded Tk 20 thousand from his family over phone. Tipped off, a team of Rab conducted a raid and nabbed Rasel Miah and Rabiul Islam from Eidgah area of the town at about 1:30 pm. At this, the accomplices of Rasel and Rabiul freed the abducted businessman in front of Moulvibazar Government High School in the evening and fled the scene. ASP Md Zakir Hussain, assistant director of Rab-9 Srimongal camp told the reporters yesterday that they handed over the captured abductors to Moulvibazar police. Amulya Kumar Chowdhury, OC of Moulvibazar Sadar model police station said a case has been filed against the two arrestees and two other unidentified persons. He said Suhel Ahmed has a house of scraped iron trading in Moulvibazar town.
