Four more sued in Bagerhat on war crime charges

A case was filed yesterday with a Bagerhat court against four people on charges of killing two siblings and raping three of their relatives during the liberation war in 1971. Freedom fighter Md Phool Miah Khalifa of Matherpar village under Sharankhola upazila filed the case with the court of senior judicial magistrate Md Rakhibul Islam. The court ordered the officer-in-charge of Sharankhola police station to record the case as an ejahar. The two brothers killed by the alleged razakars are Chan Miah Khalifa and his younger brother Abdur Rashid Khalifa. The accused are Lutfor Hawlader, 65, Abdur Rab Gazi, 63, Fazlul Haque Khalifa, 70, and Mofazzal Khalifa, 62. All of them hail from Matherpar village under Sharankhola upazila. The plaintiff in his ejahar said, he took training at Naihati camp in India and participated in the 1971 liberation war. Taking advantage of his absence during the war, the aforesaid accused entered their house and shot dead his elder brother Chan Miah Khalifa. Later they took his younger brother Abdur Rashid Khalifa to a place near the house of Afez Gazi and slaughtered him there. The alleged razakars also raped his sister-in-law Nurjahan Begum, sister Sufia Begum and Rashid Khalifa's daughter Elachi Begum, according to the complaint.
