Three housewives murdered allegedly for dowry

Three housewives were killed allegedly for dowry in Thakurgaon, Chapainawabganj and Sirajganj on Tuesday. A newly married housewife was killed allegedly for dowry at Pahardanga village under Sadar upazila in Thakurgaon, reports our correspondent. Police and locals said Sabina Akhter,19, daughter of late Aziruddin was married to Mahabub, 25, son of Babul Hossain of the same village just four months ago. To knot the tie, Mahabub's parents demanded Tk.50,000 as dowry. Finding no alternative, Moslema, ultra-poor mother of Sabina, sold a portion of her homestead land and collected money from the villagers and paid Tk. 40,000. As she could not arrange the promised amount Sabina's in-laws often tortured Sabina. On Saturday Mahabub's family members forced Sabina to go to her parent's house to bring the rest money. As her mother failed to mange Tk.10,000 Sabina did not return from her mother's house. At this, the family members of Mahabub brought her to their house Monday night. On returning home they started to torture Sabina. At one stage at about 2:00am they strangled her to death. Our Correspondent in Chapainawabganj reports: A newly married woman was killed allegedly by her husband and in-laws over dowry at Chandlai-Namopara of the town on Tuesday morning. Locals and police said, Chhobiara Begum Rekha, 18, daughter of Fazlur Rahman was married to Mohammad Nadim only two months ago. Her husband and in-laws used to torture her regularly for dowry since the marriage. On the fateful day, Nadim and his family members beat up and then strangled Rekha at their house at about 9:30am. The alleged killers later went into hiding. Police recovered the body yesterday noon and sent it to Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy. In Sirajganj, a pregnant housewife was killed allegedly by her husband at Nimgachhi village in Raiganj upazila as she refused to bring dowry money from her father's house. The victim was identified as Kazori Khatun, 22, wife of Haydar Ali of the village reports our Correspondent. Victim's family sources said, Kazori, daughter of Abul Kashem of Madhainagor village in Tarash upazila of the same district was married to Hydar Ali of Nimgachhi village around four years ago. During the marriage, Kazori's father gave a good sum of dowry to Hydar Ali. But, Hydar had been demanding more money from her father-in-law. On the fateful day, Hydar locked in a quarrel with Kazori and suffocated her as she refused to bring the dowry money. On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the body and sent it to Sirajganj Sadar hospital morgue for autopsy. Victim's father Abul Kashem lodged a case with the police station in this connection.
