Bepza school prize giving ceremony heldThe prize giving ceremony of annual sports and cultural competitions of Bepza Public School and College was held on Saturday. Chittagong Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) General Manager Mohammad Ataul Haque was the chief guest at the ceremony with the School and College Principal Major (Retd) Syed Kamrul Islam in the chair. General Manager Ataul in his speech assured the school authority of constructing an auditorium and a new building for the institution soon. CEPZ Superintendent Abdul Halim inaugurated the ceremony while Manager (Commercial Operation) Abdus Sobhan, Pacific Jeans General Manager MN Huda, CEPZ Manager (industry related) Mohammad Mezbah Uddin Ahmed and Manager (Accounts) Mohammad Mohiuddin spoke at the ceremony. Later, students of the institution performed at a cultural function. Nurjahan Group launches bottled soyabean oil
Edible oil manufacturing company Nurjahan Group launched bottled soyabean oil in the market on Thursday. Through a ceremony at Hotel Agrabad in the city The company formally launched their 500 millilitre to eight litres soyabean oil in plastic bottles and 16 litres in tin container. Managing Director Zahir Ahmed was the chief guest at the launching ceremony while the group Marketing Head Kazi Motahar Uddin put up details about the company. Zahir in his speech said marketing of the bottled soyabean oil is a milestone for the company which has been producing around 25 percent of the total soyabean oil of the country since 2001. "We will produce the oil maintaining the highest quality and perfect weight in consideration of satisfaction of the consumers," he said. Prof Dr Nizamul Haque Bhuiyan, the Nurjahan Group Director Tipu Sultan, Executive Director Mohammad Ishaque, Director (Admin) Mizanur Rahman and Corporate Financial Consultant Belayet Hossain and Public Service Commission Member Prof Imran Kabir Chowdhury were present the ceremony. CCC book fair begins
To mark the International Mother Language Day a ten-day book fair and cultural competitions began in the port city on Saturday. Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) organised the fair at Laldighi Maidan. Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury inaugurated the fair as the chief guest while Premier University Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Anupam Sen and journalist Obaidul Haque were present as the special guests. Mohiuddin in his speech said Chittagong will be developed as the education-friendly city of the country. All the initiatives for expansion of the CCC education network are being implemented gradually, he said, urging the students to read more creative books along with the textbooks to enrich themselves. CCC Education Standing Committee Chairman Shahidul Islam presided over the inaugural ceremony while Kapasgola City Corporation Women College Principal Prof Chowdhury Manjurul Haque, Premier University College Principal Prof Sudhir Dev, Panel Mayor Monwara Begum Moni, Magistrate Dr Anupam Saha and CCC Chief Education Officer Prof Iftekhar Ahmed Khan also spoke at the function. China keen to invest in infrastructure dev
Chinese Ambassador Zhang Xianyi expressed his country's eagerness to invest in different infrastructural development, including the deep sea port in Chittagong. He said this when he makes a courtesy call on Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury at the latter's office on Saturday. The city mayor briefed the Chinese envoy about different development projects taken by the CCC. The mayor and ambassador discussed different issues, including prospects of Chinese investment in several projects like construction of deep sea-port, establishment of small and medium industries and power units, information technology development in Chittagong and exchange of programmes between Premier University and any Chinese university. The Ambassador assured him of all cooperation in this regard. CCC Chief Education Officer Prof Iftekhar Ahmad Khan and officials of the embassy were present at the meeting. Tribute paid to Jyoti Basu
Speakers urged the politicians to learn from the struggles and qualities of the great personalities in the history to create examples. They were addressing a citizens' mourning meeting on Monday to pay tribute to veteran Marxist leader and India's longest serving chief minister Jyoti Basu. Former President of Bangladesh Economic Association Dr Moinul Islam chaired the meeting on the DC Hill premises where professionals, students, teachers and leaders of left political parties spoke. Paying tribute to Jyoti Basu at the discussion speakers said Jyoti Basu was the icon of communist movement in the cub-continent. Awami League presidium member Ataur Rahman Khan Kaiser, Premier University Vice Chancellor Dr Anupam Sen, Shaheed Jaya Begum Mushtari Shafi, Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) leader Shah Alam, Chittagong University (CU) Social Science faculty dean Dr Gazi Salahuddin, Biplobi Workers Party leader Nasiruddin Nasu and journalist Nazim Uddin Shyamol spoke at the meeting.
